[origin: EP0605821A1] In order to further develop an exhaust gases extraction hood for extracting contaminated air or other gases in particular from elongated sources (10), the hood being bounded by two mutually parallel end faces (6) and having a lateral surface (7) running therebetween, in which at least one stabilised swirling flow is maintained, in such a way that said hood can be used for any lengths and which furthermore can be used advantageously as "overhead hood" without being connected to an exhausting area, can moreover be produced simply and economically, is easy to maintain and can be constructed so that it is operationally reliable, it is proposed that the exhaust gases extraction hood is provided between its end plates (6) with sink pipes (4) which are aligned at right angles to the axis of said end plates or radially to the lateral surface (7) and have sink openings concentric to the lateral surface (7), the sink pipes (4) introduced into the hood being linked to an exhausting system. <IMAGE>
