[origin: EP0606660A1] The invention relates to a temperature-controllable, for example heatable, roll having a hollow cylindrical roll body (1) which is fitted on both sides with flange journals (2, 40) and which is provided with peripheral heating bores (4), parallel with its axis, underneath its jacket, the said bores being flowed through by a thermal transfer medium supplied axially via bores (5) in the roll journals (2) and via cavities formed between the roll body (1) and its flanges (23). Rolls of this type are intended to be improved in the sense that the heating channels lying relatively closely under the jacket surface are to be fed at a reduced production cost and the production of an advantageous temperature field is permitted. To this end it is proposed that the radius of the partial circle of the peripheral heating bores (4) exceeds that of the clamping screws (3) connecting the flange journals (2, 40) and the roll body (1), and that openings of the heating bores are connected to the hollow spaces by means of grooves (10, 11, 13) and/or bores (9, 12) arranged in the shells of the flange journals. <IMAGE>
