[origin: EP0606845A1] A lockable adjusting mechanism for height- or inclination-adjustable parts (head part 3) of couches, beds or the like is equipped with a supporting linkage (6) for supporting the adjustable parts and a locking mechanism (8) coupled to the supporting linkage (6). The locking mechanism has a clamping rod (17) and a clamping plate (18) arranged thereon, which clamping plate surrounds with an opening (20) the clamping rod (17) with play and is longitudinally displaceable relative to the clamping rod (17) and also tiltable between a locking position and a release position with respect to the clamping rod (17). In the locking position of the clamping plate (18), the locking mechanism (8) is blocked counter to the supporting-force direction (S) of the supporting linkage (6) and freed in the supporting-force direction. In the release position of the clamping plate (18), the locking mechanism (8) is unlocked counter to the supporting-force direction. The supporting linkage (6) is articulated on the clamping plate (18). The clamping plate (18) is equipped with a latching mechanism (33) for latching in the release position of the clamping plate (18), and also with an inertial mass (mass block 19), in such a way that the clamping plate (18) can pivot, in the case of an accelerated pull on the supporting linkage (6) or the part (head part 3) supported by the latter, in the supporting-force direction (S) under the influence of the moment or inertia of the inertial mass (mass block 19) as abutment into its release position and can be latched in this position with the aid of the latching mechanism (33). <IMAGE>
