[origin: WO9306856A1] The present invention relates to the use of topical interferon- alpha for the treatment of various forms of fibrosis in and around the eye arising from various ophthalmic diseases and procedures. Specifically the invention relates to alleviation of corneal scarring after laser photoablative refractive keratectomy (PRK). It aslo relates to the alleviation of posterior (lens) capsular opacification after extracapsular cataract surgery with lens implant; the alleviation of wound scarring following glaucoma filtration surgery. Interferon- alpha may also be used to coat the lens implant prior to or during implantation. It may also possibly be injected into the eye during eye surgery for inhibiting posterior capsule opacification after cataract surgery and in addition may be injected into the vitreous body to prevent retinal fibrosis and proliferative vitreo-retinopathy, and injected subconjunctivally to inhibit fibrosis and scarring following glaucoma filtration surgery.

La présente invention concerne l'utilisation de l'interféron-alpha local dans le traitement de différentes formes de fibroses, à l'intérieur et autour de l'oeil résultant de différentes maladies et opérations ophtalmiques. De manière spécifique, l'invention concerne l'atténuation des cicatrices de la cornée après la kératectomie réfractive photo-ablative par laser (PRK). Elle concerne également l'atténuation de l'opacification capsulaire (cristallin) postérieure après l'opération de la cataracte extacapsulaire avec un implant de cristallin; l'atténuation des cicatrices suivant l'opération de la filtration du glaucome. L'interféron-alpha peut aussi être utilisé pour recouvrir le cristallin à implanter avant ou pendant l'implantation. Il peut aussi être injecté dans l'oeil durant l'opération de l'oeil pour éliminer l'opacification postérieure de la capsule après l'opération de la cataracte et de plus, il peut être injecté dans l'humeur vitrée, pour éviter la fibrose de la rétine et une rétinopathie du corps vitré proliférative, et injecté sous-conjonctivalement pour éviter les fibroses et les cicatrices suivant l'opération de filtration du glaucome.
