[origin: EP0607720A1] This apparatus comprises essentially a first fixed cylindrical surface (5), into which a combustible-gas intake opens (8), a second fixed cylindrical surface (6) which is externally concentric with the first and defines with it a distribution chamber (7) for the combustible gas, and a system for igniting the combustible gas passing over the second surface (6), on which the flame catches so that this surface is heated to a very high temperature and produces heat radiating into the annular space (14) comprised between said second surface (6) and a rotary cylinder (2), to which the material to be dried is applied. This apparatus makes possible in particular the drying of webs or bands of paper. <IMAGE>
