Abstract (en)
A fast response liquid crystal light valve (LCLV) system comprises an LCLV (6) that includes a liquid crystal layer (18) and responds to changes in an input video signal (28) by modifying the optical properties of said liquid crystal layer (18), the video signal comprising a series of successive video frames. Further provided are means (36) for modifying said video signal by imposing thereon a compensating signal that, in response to a change in the gray scale level of said video signal for two successive frames, provides an additional drive to force a faster response by the liquid crystal layer (18) than its response to the drive provided by the unmodified video signal, and means for applying said modified video signal to provide a modulating input to said LCLV (6). <IMAGE>
