[origin: EP0608790A2] The invention relates to an obstetric aid for animals with a support that can be supported on the body of the mother animal, the support receiving a rod, and furthermore with two sleeve-shaped parts (2, 3) which are arranged on the rod and can be alternately displaced and fixed, there being at least two holding devices fastened on at least one of the two sleeve-shaped parts and permitting tensioning of leg loops which can be connected to the holding devices for the young animal in the direction of tension, and a tensioning lever (7) being pivotably mounted in one of the sleeve-shaped parts and pivotably receives an intermediate member (11) at a distance from its swivelling axis (8), and the intermediate member is also pivotably mounted in the other sleeve-shaped part (2). In order to ensure that the maximum tensile force adjusted cannot be exceeded on permanent use of such a device it is proposed, according to the invention, that there be a device (11, 19, 22, 9, 31) for locking the device when a predetermined tensile force is reached. <IMAGE>
