[origin: EP0609196A1] A double chamber furnace (1) for the charging of casting machines forms a storage chamber (6), having a material feed device (8), and a withdrawal chamber (7), having a molten-metal withdrawal device (9), and is equipped with a regulating device for the molten-metal filling height in the withdrawal chamber (7), which regulating device comprises a molten-metal pump (13) for transferring the molten metal from the storage chamber (6) to the withdrawal chamber (7). In order to improve the action and functioning of the double chamber furnace, an intermediate chamber (10) is provided between withdrawal chamber (7) and storage chamber (6), the intermediate chamber, on the one hand, being linked to the withdrawal chamber (7) in communicating fashion via an equalising opening (11) and, on the other hand, being connected to the storage chamber (6) via an overflow (12), and the molten-metal pump (13) conveys the molten metal from the storage chamber (6) into the intermediate chamber (10). <IMAGE>
