[origin: EP0609484A1] The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the application of coating colour onto a web of fibrous material. It proceeds in this case from the principle of the indirect application of coating colour, in which the coating colour is first delivered onto the covering surface of an application roll and is then deposited onto a web of fibrous material. The basic idea of the invention consists of delivering two or more layers of coating colour onto the covering surface of one and the same application roll. According to an adapted embodiment, a release liquid can also be applied before the application of a coating colour layer, the release liquid repelling the coating colour but having an affinity for the material of the covering surface of the application roll, so that a trouble-free removal of the coated web of fibrous material from the covering surface of the roll takes place. <IMAGE>
