A multi-purpose knife is shown and described which takes the form of an elongated handle, from each end of which there can optionally be extended a blade (29, 30), each blade (29, 30) being supported by inherently displaceable blade supports (27, 28) which can be locked in their pushed-inwards basic position. To ensure that only one of the two blades (29, 30) can be extended at any one time, provision is made for an actuating slide (15) to engage between the two blade holders (27, 28) by means of which slide (15) in each case one or other of the blade holders (27, 28) can be moved outwards against the resistance of a restoring spring (31) and for the actuating slide (15) to be gripped in the basic position in the direction of movement between the two manually operated alternating stops (39, 40), only one of which can be moved into the release position at any one time. <IMAGE>

Gezeigt und beschrieben ist ein Mehrzweckmesser in Form eines länglichen Handgriffes, aus dessen beiden Enden wahlweise je eine Klinge (29, 30) ausfahrbar ist, die von jeweils für sich verschiebbaren Klingenhaltern (27, 28) getragen sind, die in ihrer einwärts geschobenen Grundstellung arretierbar sind. Damit immer nur eine der beiden Klingen (29, 30) ausfahrbar ist, ist vorgesehen, daß zwischen die beiden Klingenhalter (27, 28) ein Betätigungsschieber (15) greift, mit dem jeweils der eine oder der andere Klingenhalter (27, 28) gegen die Kraft einer Rückholfeder (31) nach außen hin bewegbar ist, und daß der Betätigungsschieber (15) in der Grundstellung in Bewegungsrichtung zwischen zwei von Hand betätigbaren Wechselanschlägen (39, 40) eingefaßt ist, von denen immer nur einer in Freigabestellung bewegbar ist. <IMAGE>
