[origin: WO9310531A1] A small size disk drive having an actuator magnet (346b) which is designed to provide a constant torque over the entire range of motion of the actuator arm. Specifically, magnet (346b) has a greater area at sides (347-1) and (347-2) than at the center of the magnet, thus increasing the magnetic flux at these areas to compensate for losses. Actuator coil (342) is capable of moving the actuator arm in both directions.
