[origin: EP0615009A1] The invention relates to a process for feeding an approximately uniform fibre mass over one complete unrolling interval (T) of a lap (9) unrollable from a lap roll (W) to a gripper assembly (12) movable to and fro. It is known from practice that, with a decreasing roll weight, the dynamic differences which occur lead to a drift of the linear density of the fibre sliver formed on the combing machine. To overcome this disadvantage, it is now proposed that a clamping force (K) extending over the width of the lap be exerted on the unrolled lap (9) at least during the largest part of the unrolling interval between the winding rollers (5, 6) and the gripper assembly (12). <IMAGE>
