Pivot for a bed base about at least one transverse axis (20) comprising at least two parts (16, 18) that can be moved relative to the frame of the bed supporting it, a first part (16) being positioned at the foot end of the bed and a second part (18) at the head end of the bed, the pivot being characterised in that the first part (16) comprises a first (26) and a second (28) pivots, downstream and upstream respectively, this second pivot (28) comprising an arm (46) fixed parallel to the plane of this first part and hinged relative to the frame (12), and the second part (18) comprises a first (54) and a second (56) pivots with translation, downstream and upstream respectively, this first pivot (54) connecting the first and second parts and this second pivot connecting this second part to the pivot arm of the first part. <IMAGE>
