[origin: WO9314436A1] An improved light modulating device having an electrically active layer to which an electric field is applied through a pair of transparent metal electrodes. The improvement relates to providing at least one of the electrodes with a thin passivating dielectric layer to enhance degradation resistance. The dielectric layer may also act as a dielectric tuning layer.

Dispositif de modulation de lumière amélioré comportant une couche électriquement active à laquelle on applique un champ électrique par l'intermédiaire d'une paire d'électrodes métalliques transparentes. L'amélioration consiste à revêtir au moins l'une des électrodes d'une fine couche diélectrique de passivation destinée à améliorer la résistance à la dégradation. La couche diélectrique peut également jouer le rôle de couche d'accord diélectrique.
