In a machine for packaging a load (1) by means of streamers (hoop-casing), which includes a device for supplying a pre-stretched film (3) driven, with respect to a longitudinal axis (6) of the load (1) to be packaged, in a helical relative movement, the device for handling the free end of the film (3) between two hoop-casing cycles according to the invention includes a plate (10), for pressing the film (3) against the load (1), the length of which is at least equal to the width of the film (3) employed and, in the vicinity of one of the long edges of this plate (10), a pair (13, 14) of jaws which can move with respect to each other along this edge (10a) in order to crease (gather) and pinch between them the portion of film included between the plate applied to the load and the device for supplying the film. <IMAGE>
