[origin: WO9320986A1] Described is a device for cutting sheets of wood off square timber (2) without forming chips, the device having two measurement devices (3, 4) which determine the taper of the timber (2) in the transverse direction. A cutter blade (10) which cuts the sheets off the timber can pivot about an axis (15) at right angles to the blade (10) in order to produce a relative pivoting motion between the cutter blade (10) and a timber guide surface (8) located at a certain distance from the blade. The pivoting motion is controlled as a function of the measurements furnished by the measurement devices (3, 4) in order to compensate for the taper of the timber in the transverse direction.
