[origin: WO9323613A1] A process is disclosed for drying voluminous paper webs, destined in particular for producing toilet paper. Instead of a relatively large, steam-heated drying cylinder, one or several heated presses are used for drying the wet paper web. The often undesirable delamination of the paper web when it leaves the compression gap, caused by the sudden expansion of the flash steam, is purposefully used in order to improve the volume and softness of the thus produced paper. Some devices for implementing the process are disclosed, having both short and elongate compression gaps.
