[origin: EP0641936A1] A hydraulically actuated diaphragm pump has a diaphragm (1) which consists of at least two individual layers (1a, 1b). In the central zone of the diaphragm (1) a shape-retaining (inherently stable) stiffening element (25, 26; 42) is provided which is kept in contact with the diaphragm (1) and moves together with the diaphragm (1). The inlet and outlet ducts (14, 15) of the diaphragm pump in this arrangement debauch, at least for the greater part, radially within the stiffening element (25, 26; 42) into the discharge chamber, so that they are correspondingly covered by the stiffening element (25, 26; 42).
