[origin: US5623770A] In order to dry and cure a coating based on a water dilutable system, heat is supplied to the coating using an infrared radiator (1). In order to accelerate evaporation of the water, an air flow aligned perpendicularly to the infrared radiation is produced between the article on which the coating is applied, and the infrared radiator (1), using a fan (2). The power of the infrared radiator (1) and/or that of blower (2) can be changed in the course of drying and curing.
