[origin: EP0657356A1] The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for shrinking a foil hood (2) which consists of heat-shrinkable material and which is drawn over a load (1) located on a pallet. In this case, the object is to avoid bondings or fusions with foils which themselves surround the load units. For this purpose, excess air pressure is generated in a known way within the foil hood, so that the foil hood is kept at a distance from the surface of the load. According to the invention, the excess air pressure within the foil hood is brought about solely by heating the air located in the foil hood, and shrinkage takes place during the vertical movement of a shrinkage frame (5) enclosing the load, the method parameters being regulated in such a way that the shrinkage forces exceed the air pressure within the foil hood during the entire shrinking operation. The air pressure within the hood is thus lowered continuously to a predetermined level. <IMAGE>
