[origin: WO9405667A1] The present invention relates to a compound of formula (I) wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R2 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a metal or a nonmetal salt group, or a carboxy protecting group, R3 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom or an imino protecting group, R4 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxy group, a cyano group, or a halogen atom, and R5 is defined as in claim 1; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof. The compounds of the present invention have excellent antibacterial activities against various gram positive bacteria and gram negative bacteria and are useful as antibacterial agents for treatment and prevention of the human infectious diseases caused by such bacteria.
