Substituted (herbicidally active) sulphonylaminocarbonyltriazolinones of the formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R<1> and R<2> represent hydrogen or various radicals and R<3> represents various radicals are obtained in good yields and high purity by reacting, in a three-component reaction, triazolinones of the general formula (II) <IMAGE> with sulphonyl halides of the general formula (III> R<3>-SO2-X (III), X = halogen, and metal cyanates of the general formula (IV> MOCN (IV> in which M represents an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal equivalent, at temperatures between 20 DEG C and 150 DEG C, if appropriate in the presence of a reaction auxiliary and if appropriate in the presence of a diluent.

Substituierte (herbizid wirksame) Sulfonylaminocarbonyltriazolinone der Formel (I) <IMAGE> in welcher R¹ und R² für Wasserstoff oder verschiedene Reste und R³ für verschiedene Reste stehen, erhält man in guten Ausbeuten und hoher Reinheit, indem man in einer Dreikomponenten-Reaktion Triazolinone der allgemeinen Formel (II) <IMAGE> mit Sulfonsäurehalogeniden der allgemeinen Formel (III) R³-SO2-X (III), X = Halogen, und Metallcyanaten der allgemeinen Formel (IV) MOCN (IV) in welcher M für ein Alkalimetall oder ein Erdalkalimetall-äquivalent steht, gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart eines Reaktionshilfsmittels und gegebenenfalls in Gegenwart eines Verdünnungsmittels bei Temperaturen zwischen 20°C und 150°C umsetzt.
