[origin: EP0660299A1] A method and a device for the transmission of dictations propose firstly to digitise the speech information of the dictation and to convert and to compress the digital information with the aid of a vocoder device. The conversion and compression can be carried out subsequent to the digitisation at a relatively low speed. Only after complete conversion and compression of the entire dictation is the latter then transmitted via a modem and a digital connection at high speed. On the receiver side, the storage and expansion takes place in the reversed sequence. As a result, telephone connection times can be shortened and the transmission costs can thus be reduced.
