[origin: EP0660354A2] A vacuum switching chamber (10) has a switch chamber housing (11) which is composed of two housing parts (12, 13). The two housing parts (12, 13) are constructed in the form of a bowl or bell and have a base (20, 21) which encloses an opening (22, 23) through which supporting spikes (26, 28) engage on which a stationary contact piece (27) and a moving contact piece (29) are fitted. The physical size of the vacuum switching chamber (10) is reduced as a result of the fact that the bases (20, 21) are drawn inwards and, furthermore, additional components and solder sheets are saved in comparison with cylindrical switching chamber housings. <IMAGE>
