[origin: EP0661017A2] The invention relates to a working top for household appliances, kitchen furniture and the like. The working top consists of a load-bearing supporting element, a covering layer and an edge surround, these individual components of the working top being combined to form a unit. The invention consists in that the edge surround (2) is a one-piece, frame-type structural element. This structural element has, on its inner-wall regions (21), formed-on connection receptacles (22) which are distributed over the elongated lengths and have engagement openings (221) for connectors (31) arranged correspondingly on the supporting element (3). In the assembled unit, the edge regions (34) of the supporting element (3), which edge regions engage under the edges (41) of the covering layer, secure the covering layer (4) in a sealing and clamping manner on engaging-over edge regions (241) of the edge surround (2).
