[origin: EP0661410A2] The invention relates to a directional brake for objects which move along a rail or the like and are guided relatively thereto. Such objects may be, for example, doors, lifting hooks or the like. The invention provides that a frictional element (3) is tiltably arranged either on the guide (13) or on the object (14) which is to be braked, such that it rests on the respectively other objects (14, 13) irrespective of the relative movement direction, the frictional element being located obliquely in the event of a relative movement in the non-braking direction, but, in the opposite direction, being located essentially normal to the guide (13) and/or being subjected to considerable contact pressure, with the result that the friction forces caused thereby counteract the relative movement. <IMAGE>
