[origin: EP0661912A2] A battery-operated electrical unit is proposed having an input contact (4) which is protected against electrostatic discharge. The input contact (4) is either electrically conductively connected by switching means (19) to a reference contact (7) or is fitted in a depression (27) on the electrical unit (26). An electrically conductive connection is formed between a mating connection (11) of a plug means (25) and the input contact (4) before the switching means (19) changes to a non-conductive state, or is not possible until the mating connection (11) is electrically conductively connected to the reference contact (7). <IMAGE>
