[origin: GB2270009A] Liquid is discharged from a level which is a fixed distance H below the surface 5a by a vortex valve 7 which is suspended from or integral with the lower part of a float 15. Valve 7 has a tangential inlet 9, an axial outlet 11 connected to flexible hose 17 and an axial air inlet 23. The vortex created within the valve ensures a restricted and constant discharge flow. <IMAGE>
