[origin: EP0665321A1] A water feed unit for steam irons has a first valve (52), which is located between a water container (1) and an evaporation chamber (2). The valve (52) consists of a valve component (5) with a valve opening (7), and a valve rod (9) sealed in the valve opening (7). The rod has an oblong groove (15) and moves by means of rotating motion from the closing position into the open position and vice versa. The valve component (5) has a collar (6) which surrounds the rod (9) and has a radial opening (18). In the closed position, one end of the oblong groove (15) is located inside the collar (6) while in the open position, the groove end is connected to the collar opening (18).
