Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0665565A2] The high voltage power switch has a cylindrical housing (11) with an internal metal screening (13). Projecting internally at the centre is a contact element (16). Located over this is a tubular contact carrier (17) that can move axially by displacement of a piston (18). Contact fingers (27) are positioned in the gap within a cage (26). Positioned in parallel is a burn off contact ring (24). When the main contacts open the burn-off contact remains in engagement to minimise main contact cover. The burn-off contact is of graphite and diffuses the arcing effect.
