Abstract (en)
Metal parts are mfd. from original metal model by coating with liq. silicon under vacuum, cutting the solidified silicon block to remove the original model, casting wax in the reassembled silicon mould, removing the wax model and using it to produce a ceramic or gypsum mould, removing the wax by melting after the mould has been hardened, and finally casting metal into the ceramic mould. The original metal model is made by solid free form mfg., esp. stereo-lithography. The vacuum chamber (1) houses means for supporting frames with equipment to perform each stage of the operation. An electrical control device (4) outside the chamber has a connection cable (8) feeding power to various equipment such as a stirrer (20), a tilting device (19), heating device (23) and a mould (24). The main frame (10) is located on rollers (25).
