[origin: WO9411469A1] The invention concerns the use of at least substantially water-insoluble dialkyl ethers of natural or synthetic mono- and/or polyhydric alcohols, the ethers being liquid at working temperatures, as the oil phase in agents for treating metal surfaces and in cooling lubricants. The invention also concerns agents containing at least such dialkyl ethers, corrosion inhibitors and emulsifiers. These dialkyl ethers are intended for use as mineral-oil substitutes.
