[origin: GB2272320A] A coin sorter (10) comprises a disc (11) and a ramp (12). The disc gathers the coins (14) from an associated feed hopper (15) and delivers them to the ramp (12) via one or more detector stations (16, 17) at which one or more of the coin's physical parameters is measured to determine whether the coin is proper or improper (and, if proper, preferably what denomination it is). The ramp (12) separates the coins (14) into their various size-defined denominations and feeds them to the appropriate delivery chutes (17). A pusher 20 ejects unacceptable coins from the disk back into the hopper 15. This may also occur if the coin is acceptable but is identified as belonging to a denomination of which the associated chute is full. <IMAGE>
