[origin: DE4237050A1] In the state of the art, sludgers for pumping visquous fluids in which a lower viscosity solvent liquid is added to the fluid are filled with the visquous fluid when they are sunk into the borehole. In order to start the sludger, therefore, a high starting torque caused by the unmixed visquous fluid must be overcome. In order to reduce the starting torque, a shutting-off device (19) is arranged before the actual pump inlet (18) for closing the sludger during sinking and preventing the entrance of visquous fluid. The shutting-off device is particularly useful for a turbopump in which the driving liquid of the turbine is used as liquid solvent, whereas the shutting-off device is hydraulically actuated by means of the driving liquid.
