[origin: EP0670325A2] Metallocene complexes of formula (I) and ligand systems of formula (II) are new: M = Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb or Ta; X = F, Cl, Br, I, H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl or -OR<5>; R<5> = 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl, 1-10C alkyl - 6-20 C aryl, 6-20 C aryl - 1-10C alkyl, 1-10C fluoroalkyl or 6-20 C fluoroaryl; R<1>-R<3> and R<6> -R<8> = H, 1-10C alkyl substd. 5-7 membered cycloalkyl or 6-15C aryl(alkyl), with which two neighbouring gps. may opt. form 4-15C cyclic gps., or Si(R<10>)3; R<10> = 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl or 3-10C cycloalkyl; R<4> = (i); Q<1> = N, P, As, Sb or Bi; R<11>, R<12> = 1-10C alkyl, 3-15C cycloalkyl, 6-15C aryl, 1-10C alkyl - 6-20 C aryl, 6-20 C aryl - 1-10C alkyl, 1-10C fluoroalkyl or 6-20 C fluoroaryl, or R<11> and R<12> may form a 2-15C heterocyclic gp. contg. 1-8 heteroatoms from main gps. Also claimed are: (i) the prepn. of (I) and (II); (ii) use of (II) for the prepn. of (I); (iii) prepn. of 2-10C alk-1-ene polymers at -50 to 300 degrees C, 0.5-3000 bar, using a catalyst prepd. by reacting (I) with a quaternising agent of formula (V) and opt. an open chain or cyclic alumoxane cpd. of formula (VI) or (VII); and (iv) fibres, films or shaped articles of 2-10C alk-1-ene polymers obtd. using the catalysts prepd. in (i): AaX<2> (V) A = 1-10C alkyl, 3-15C cycloalkyl, 6-15C aryl, 1-10C alkyl - 6-20 C aryl, 6-20 C aryl - 1-10C alkyl, 1-10C fluoroalkyl or 6-20 C fluoroaryl; X<2> = F, Cl, Br, I, SO3<2->, SO4<2-> or NO3<->; a = 1-2; R<20> = 1-4C alkyl; and m = 5-30.
