[origin: EP0671359A1] A cryogenic refrigeration method for use in connection with a cryogenic temperature swing adsorption unit 26, the latter providing a flow of product at fluctuating rate and temperature (for example, argon). A heat exchange stream 14 is liquefied in heat exchanger 20 by indirect heat exchange the impure liquid stream 12 to produce an impure vapour stream to be purified in the adsorption unit 26. When production of purified vapour is reduced or ceases. process liquid accumulates for later use in liquefying purified vapour. The process liquid is supplemented, by supplying a further liquid stream 66 to the tank 40. Thus, the requirement for the heat exchange stream, for instance nitrogen. may be kept constant. This allows the refrigeration method of the present invention to be integrated with an air separation plant without placing undue cyclic loadings on the air separation unit thereof. <IMAGE>
