The device comprises a central controller (1) having two input/output lines (2, 3) for transmitting and receiving data messages comprising an address, a control input means (4), a plurality of repeaters (5, 6, 7) each comprising two first (8, 9, 10) and second (11, 12, 13) input/output terminals and by-pass input/output means (14, 15, 16), said repeaters being connected in series to form a ring control circuit (17) with both ends connected to respective input/output lines (2, 3), and controllable automatic addressing units (20, 21, 22) connecting the by-pass input/output means (14, 15, 16) to the elements to be controlled (23, 24, 25). The device may be used for controlling the various components of a machine tool in the engineering industry or the various parts of a motor vehicle such as head lights, indicators, monitoring elements, etc.
