Abstract (en)

The procedure, designed to increase the height of a rail while reducing the thickness of its web (16) and foot (18), consists of machining the upper portion of the web beneath the head (14) of the rail, and heating the remainder of the web and foot to deform it by forging. The upper portion of the web is machined to its final thickness, and the lower part of the web and foot are heated by a localised induction process, with the rail head cooled at the same time.

Le procédé consiste à augmenter la hauteur du rail au détriment de l'épaisseur de l'âme (16) et du patin (18). On réduit d'abord, par usinage, l'épaisseur de la partie supé-rieure de l'âme (16) en dessous de la tête (14) et ensuite le reste de l'âme (16) ainsi que le patin (18) du rail (10) sont réchauffés et déformés par forgeage. Ce procédé évite les modifications de dureté de la surface de roulement du rail. <IMAGE>
