Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9413413A1] The description relates to a process for decontaminating bulk substances (12), especially soil, which are contaminated with heavy metals and/or hydrocarbons in liquid, paste and solid form, e.g. oils, fats, fuels and solvents. In order to simply and safety decontaminate substances (12) thus contaminated, especially paedospherical soils, the substances (12) or soil are piled on the top of a plate or block-shaped moulding (2) of a substance which adsorbs heavy metals and/or absorbs or accepts hydrocarbons and which is screened on the underside by an permeation-resistant blocking layer (7). Water is then trickled (13) over the substances (12) and the water-soluble heavy metals and/or the hydrocarbons are washed out of the substances (12) by the water and taken to the moulding (2). The water-soluble heavy metals and/or the hydrocarbons are adsorbed and/or absorbed by the material of the moulding (2) while the water is taken away therefrom.
