[origin: DE4411560C1] One or more chemical cartridges (2) in a housing (1) absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen gas. An exhalation bag (3) is contained in an inhalation bag (7), and inhalation (4) and exhalation (5) valves are included, together with a particle filter (6). A power source (10) for the fan (8) may be connected to the evaluator (9) and can be accommodated in the housing. The cartridges can consist of double-skinned vessels accommodating a coolant and containing ignition equipment (2) connected to the evaluator. A pressure-relief valve (11) can be mounted in the exhalation valve.
