[origin: EP0675002A1] A heat-sensitive recording material comprises a support having provided thereon a heat-sensitive color forming layer containing an electron donating colorless dye and an electron accepting compound. The color forming layer contains a salicylic acid of formula (1) (or a metal salt thereof): <CHEM> wherein R1 represents an alkyl group or an aryl group; X represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group, or a halogen atom; M represents a hydrogen atom or an n-valent metal atom; and n represents an integer, provided that n is 1 when M represents a hydrogen atom; and a metal compound. The material exhibits improved color-forming properties, storage stability and, after printing, a stable colored image.
