[origin: EP0675057A1] The procedure consists of making the container (1) with a lifting handle (2) at its upper end, formed by pleating and joining a layer of the material which contains all the lengthwise fibres of the container's material. The handle is made by placing a reinforcing element (4) on one side of the layer of material before pleating, pleating both the layer of container material and the reinforcing element together and then joining the pleats together, eg. with adhesive and temporary stitching (5), or by means of permanent seams or welds. The container is made on a machine which incorporates a pleat-folding mechanism with moving metal plates and actuators. <IMAGE>
