Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0675242A1] The bar is basically rectangular in cross-section with top and bottom edges (7, 8) which act as supporting surfaces for at least one panel, eg. a pane of glass (3, 4), and two sides (5, 6) with lengthwise grooves (16-19) designed to remove water. The distance from the bottom of the grooves to the adjacent thrust surface on one side of the bar is greater than the corresponding distance on the other, giving an asymmetry about a lengthwise plane parallel to the two supporting surfaces and a symmetry about a plane perpendicular to those surfaces. Each of the supporting surfaces is divided into two sections by a central lengthwise channel (9, 10) which is able to receive and cooperate with the panel fixings (11-13). The bar can be made from metal tubing subjected to folding and plastic deformation, or from two folded strips joined together by welding. <IMAGE>
