[origin: EP0676303A1] The pressing device is used for preparation of book blocks. It has a side control device (9-15) for the baseplate (3), which exerts a tangential pushing motion on the printed sheets in the side regions of the book block spine via a turning movement of the press beam (6). A control cam (10) acts via operating devices (9,11,12) on the baseplate. There is an adjustment device (13-15) for altering the lift of the pushing motion. There may be a lifting device exerting the pushing motion on the baseplate via the carrier part (5), acting with the press beam. There may be an outrigger to act as an extension of the carrier part. <IMAGE>
