[origin: EP0676365A2] The winch (1) has at least one winding drum, which is connected to a drive (3) via a gearbox (2). The drive is an asynchronous alternating current motor connected to a speed control and fitted with a disc brake (4). The speed control has a speed indicator to detect the current rate of revolution. The speed control device is fed by a three-phase supply. It is coordinated by a control unit which may take the form of a programmable controller taking as input the existing speed and the target speed of the winch. User input is transmitted to the control unit via connection to an operating panel. <IMAGE>
