Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9513209A1] The invention relates to a gear-changing system for two-wheel vehicles such as bicycles and comprises: at least two chain wheels (11, 12) of differing sizes which are mounted next to each other on a pedal shaft (10) and can optionally be made to engage with a chain by means of a first gear-changing device with a chain-lift fork (13); and several sprocket wheels of different sizes which are arranged next to each other on a rear wheel axis and can optionally be made to engage with the chain by means of a second gear-changing device with a derailleur. The gear-changing devices are actuated by means of a sheathed cable (14, 15). The proposed new gear-changing system is characterized by the fact that the chain wheels (11, 12) are axially displaceable in relation to the pedal shaft (10) and can optionally, with the aid of the first gear-changing device, be brought into any one of a number of positions relative to the chain-lift fork corresponding to the number of chain wheels (11, 12); the chain wheels (11, 12) and chain-lift fork (13) can be axially displaced relative to the pedal shaft (10) by the action of the second gear-changing device simultaneously with the actuation of the derailleur in such a way that the chain in all positions runs in roughly the same plane.
