[origin: EP0677982A1] A method of driving or operating a ballast device for e.g, a fluorescent lamp using an inverter (2) for driving at least one lamp (La) by inverting an intermediate circuit voltage (Uzk) rectified from an a.c. voltage, at an inverter frequency of (fw) is designed to reduce the cost of control circuitry (4) for lighting arrangements where the output of the lamp is strictly dependent on the value of the voltage (Uzk). thus, the inverter frequency (fw) is selected, during the normal lighting operation of the lamp (La), on the basis of the intermediate voltage value (Uzk). <IMAGE>
