Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9415624A1] Cell-to-cell transmission of HIV, and thus the sexual transmission of AIDS, is inhibited by the direct application of sulfated polysaccharides to the epithelium of the vaginal mucosa, cervix or penis. Sulfated polysaccharides include carrageenan and dextran sulfate, which may be formulated into a cream, suppository, gel or foam composition, and such compositions are an aspect of the invention.
