[origin: WO9510721A1] A sealing device for a rotating shaft, particularly for a pump shaft, comprises a protective sleeve (40) around said shaft (18) and moving with the latter in translation and rotation; a collar step (44) around said sleeve and secured to the housing in translation; sealing means around said sleeve and secured to said housing, comprising a lantern ring (50) connected to a lubricating fluid supply, and at least one ring with sealing lips (46, 48) between said collar step and annular recess; and at least one packing braid (54) positioned beyond the lantern ring with respect to the collar step, and means (56) for compressing said braid.
