The plastic strip (I) of 0.3-0.9 mm thickness consists of plastic and/or glass fibre base material(s) (A) with a non-porous thermoplastic film (B) produced on at least one side by the action of heat, and fixed to (A) by mechanical anchorage and/or adhesive bonding. Also claimed is the prodn. of (I), by (1) spreading a powder contg. the components of (B) on a moving base material (A), (2) heating to melt the thermoplastic (II), (3) pressing the prod. between two rollers with a definite gap or a definite pressure so as to form a non-porous film which is fixed to (A) as above, and (4) cooling the prod. The process can be repeated on-line, or off-line after winding on a spool, to coat the other side with (B).

Die erfindungsgemässe Kunststoffbahn, welche die Wasserdampfdiffusion verhindert oder zumindest wesentlich reduziert, ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass auf wenigstens eine Seite eines Trägermaterials oder eines Gemisches von Trägermaterialien aus Kunststoff- und/oder Glasfasern ein durch Wärmeeinwirkung gebildeter porenfreier Film auf der Basis wenigstens eines Thermoplasten durch mechanische Verankerung im Trägermaterial und/oder durch Haftung am Trägermaterial fixiert ist, und wobei die Kunststoffbahn eine Dicke im Bereich von 0,3 mm bis 0,9 mm hat. Es wird auch ein Verfahren zur Herstellung dieser Kunststoffbahn und deren Verwendung beschrieben.
